Residents of Koraput district have been advocating for a direct daytime train service to Bhubaneswar for quite some time. They highlight the challenges faced by students, government workers, and patients who regularly travel to the state capital.
Currently, most trains on this route operate late at night or during inconvenient hours, raising safety concerns, especially for women and elderly travelers. In response to these persistent requests, Koraput MLA Raghuram Machha took action on Tuesday afternoon at his home in Koraput. At around 4 PM, he announced that he had met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and formally presented the residents' request.
Machha stated, “The people of Koraput have been asking for a daytime train service. As their representative, I have brought this issue to the Railway Ministry, and the minister has assured me that a daytime train between Koraput and Bhubaneswar will be launched soon.” This announcement has generated excitement among locals, many of whom believe that such a service would enhance travel convenience and boost trade, education, and tourism in the predominantly tribal district.
Social activists, business owners, and regular commuters have expressed their support for this commitment, describing it as a crucial advancement in improving connectivity between the remote district and the state capital. While the specific schedule and launch date are still pending, residents remain optimistic that this long-awaited service will soon become a reality, significantly enhancing Koraput’s connection with the rest of Odisha.
